Expanded Formula Ford Stars field to make national level return to Mallala
For the first time in nearly two decades, national Formula Ford racing will race at the historic Mallala circuit in South Australia on September 26-28.
Following a two month break, the Formula Ford Stars Series will again join the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series for its penultimate round at Mallala, which will host the biggest field of the season.
An expanded field is expected to provide plenty of action at the old style circuit as rivals aim to keep the title alive despite Kobi Williams holding a significant series lead.
Williams holds a 196-point advantage and with 400 on offer across the next two rounds, can wrap up the title at Mallala.
A close battle for second follows as just two-points separate Lachlan Evennett and Joe Fawcett entering the round, with just a solitary point separating Jamie Rowe from Will Lowing for fourth in the standings.
Behind the top five, the ever improving Hunter Salvatore made great ground at Queensland Raceway and will be aiming to continue this trajectory at Mallala.
Marcos Ambrose Motorsport’s Brad James sits sixth just ahead of Jack Johnson.
Local Ethan Fitzgerald completes the top 10 from Tabitha Ambrose, who will be targeting a better performance after mechanical maladies have impacted her season so far.
Andrew Torti returns after debuting at Queensland Raceway, while Kaleb Balek is back on the grid after missing the last round.
South Australia is well represented in the field as joining Fitzgerald is Giuseppe Imbrogno, who is back after contesting Round 1 and debutant Isaac Demellweek.
Both Imbrogno and Demellweek will be drivers to watch on home turf after being more than a match in Formula Ford racing this year.
The Formula Ford Stars Series will contest its usual four race format featuring two qualifying sessions split across Saturday and Sunday.
Each race will commence using a rolling start as has been customary for the series during its inaugural season.
Live coverage of all races will be broadcast live on SBS, SBS On Demand and Kayo.
