Isaac Demellweek fastest in drying conditions on Fast Friday

Holinger Racing’s Isaac Demellweek has set the pace after the opening two practice sessions for the Yokohama Tyre AASA Australian Formula Ford Championship at Sydney Motorsport Park.

The two sessions were polar opposites with the first held in persistent rain and the other in drying conditions.

Championship leader Oli Wickham was quickest in the wet opening session on a 1m 53.077s to be 0.882s from recent race winner at Queensland Raceway, Lachie Mineeff.

Demellweek was third from Giuseppe Imbrogno, local driver Will Lowing, Seth Burchartz, Hunter Salvatore, Will Hickey, Rio Campbell and Brad James completed the top 10.

Lap times dropped considerably between the two sessions due to the improved conditions enabling Demellweek to achieve a 1m 43.170s, but the margin back to Lowing was just 0.025s.

Title contender Burchartz was third ahead of Jamie Rowe, Mineeff, Salvatore, Wickham, James, Campbell and Sam March.

Rowe’s entry is carrying a special livery celebrating the 40 year anniversary of Borland Racing Developments - the constructor of the Spectrum chassis.

Practice doesn’t end Friday’s Yokohama Tyre AASA Australian Formula Ford Championship action as Qualifying is up next at 3:35pm, then Race 1 follows at 5:25pm and the final event is at 7:45pm.

Qualifying will feature on the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series YouTube Channel livestream before switching across to SBS Viceland, SBS On Demand, Fox Sports 507 and Kayo Sport.
