Joe Fawcett breaks through to score victory at Winton
Joe Fawcett has broken through to take his maiden Formula Ford Stars & Renegades Series victory in the final Feature Race of the weekend at Winton.
Fawcett took the lead at Turn 1 on lap 4 from Kobi Williams, but the pressure remained throughout the shortened 25-minute encounter.
Fawcett held his nerve to take his first win by 0.338s to deny Williams a race win clean-sweep at the opening round.
Jamie Rowe continued his run of podiums in third after snatching it from Will Lowing at Turn 1 midway through the event, which led to the latter leaving the road to recover to fourth.
Hunter Salvatore finished his first circuit racing meeting in fifth ahead of Brad James, the recovering Fraser Hie, Giuseppe Imbrogno, Jack Johnson and Ethan Fitzgerald.
Tabitha Ambrose was 11th after leaving the circuit at Turn 11 entering the closing stages, with Kaleb Belak rounding out the lead lap runners.
After repairs delayed the entry of Lachlan Evennett, it forced him to be delayed for the start and he joined the race many laps down after a smoking engine plagued his efforts in Heat 2.
Following the opening event, Williams holds a 28-point advantage from Fawcett heading to Sydney Motorsport Park as part of the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series on May 30-June 1.
