New Style Excel Cup For 2025

For the 2025 Hi-Tec Oils Super Series, the Australian Excel Series has been replaced with the revamped Excel Cup.

Rather than the three round championship that we have seen in previous seasons, the PMP Excel Cup will see drivers compete for state glory at four different venues.

Instead of having a series, each round winner will be crowned the PMP Excel Cup champion of that state.

The PMP Excel Cup will visit Winton Motor Raceway in Victoria, Sydney Motorsport Park in New South Wales, Queensland Raceway in Queensland, and Mallala Motorsport Park in South Australia.

“Rather than run the Australian Excel Series over three rounds, we're going to do four individual state rounds,” said category manager Brett Peters.

“Excels are local state-based racing, so we thought let's put the focus back on the local competitor and let them reap the rewards of the coverage.

“The Excel Cup is the original, Excel competition started at Lakeside by six guys with Excels doing sprints, and then it evolved into racing. So that's where the names come from.”

Peters understood that for many young drivers, an Excel national series was a struggle financially, and this was one of the catalysts for the change.

“Now someone might decide to travel to all four and try and win them all, and you can do that if you want,” peters explained.

“There might be someone who takes out all four state championships, now that's something to put on your CV!

“It’ll be like karting or motocross, in which they have all their state championships.”

“Each round will see qualifying and progressive grid races, with all points counting equally across each race. So, you’ve got to put your whole weekend together to win.”

The new PMP Excel Cup format will be beneficial for all, it will not only showcase the state’s best Excel drivers and pit them against the interstate visitors. It will also promote Excel racing in that state on a national level.

“It's more for the local competitors, including their sponsors and their supporters, giving them the benefit of this beautiful TV deal,” he said.

“The coverage on free-to-air, Foxtel, and streamed on YouTube is such an opportunity for the Excel drivers, and why shouldn't that be available to these drivers.

“Round 1 in Victoria, their local sponsor, Lanotec, will be on the windscreen of all the cars. That's a thank you to a company that's been supporting excels in Victoria, letting them get some TV coverage.”

The PMP Excel Cup kicks off at Winton from February 28-March 2, the full calendar is below.
