Oli Wickham leads the way on Yokohama Tyre AASA Australian Formula Ford Championship’s Sydney return
The Yokohama Tyre AASA Australian Formula Ford Championship battle will resume on familiar ground at Sydney Motorsport Park as part of Round 3 of the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series on July 17-18.
Rising stars Oli Wickham and Seth Burchartz split the wins when Formula Ford raced in Sydney during the AASA Short Track Nationals event in April using the Druitt layout, however the upcoming round will utilise the familiar Gardner Circuit.
Wickham holds a 45-point lead to Isaac Demellweek after taking six wins already this season for BF Racing.
Demellweek has also added his name to the winner’s list after scoring the final race victory at The Bend, with a consistent run so far this season ensuring he holds a five-point advantage to third placed Burchartz.
Behind the lead trio, Jamie Rowe will be aiming to build on early season form and bridge the gap to the title contenders.
Lachlan Mineeff took an emotional maiden Formula Ford victory last time out at Queensland Raceway and leads a tight battle for the minor placings. Just 90-points separate fifth through to 10th encompassing Mineeff, big improver Kaleb Balek, Hunter Salvatore, Sam March, Brad James and Giuseppe Imbrogno.
March is one of many impressive rookies and has made a team switch from Holinger Racing to Synergy Motorsport ahead of the Sydney round.
Although further back in the title fight, Xavier Henderson and Will Lowing are sure to be ones to watch as the season enters its second half. Lowing especially, has endured a tough start to the season and was quick at the previous round in Sydney.
Tabitha Ambrose continues to accumulate top 10 finishes alongside the likes of Rio Campbell, Will Hickey, Ryan DeBorre and Jett Leicester, who is on the comeback trail after brake failure at Queensland Raceway.
The two-day Sydney Sunset Showdown will host two rounds of the Yokohama Tyre AASA Australian Formula Ford Championship on July 17-18.
