Oli Wickham prevails in maiden Yokohama Tyre AASA Australian Formula Ford Championship Shootout
Debutant Oli Wickham has secured pole position for the first Sunday race after setting the fastest time in the new Yokohama Tyre AASA Australian Formula Ford Championship Shootout.
Following a five-minute warm up, the drivers were put into order from least points to most from Saturday before splitting into groups of three.
The new concept is designed to further develop drivers, particular when qualifying at higher levels use this type of system.
In the end, Wickham was in the last group and set a 1m 23.626s to take his maiden pole position from Isaac Demellweek by just 0.096s.
Seth Burchartz is in a good position to score his first victory after placing third, with Hunter Salvatore sharing the second row following an impressive early lap.
Rookie Sam March will line-up fifth from Saturday’s pole and opening race winner Jamie Rowe.
Kaleb Balek continued to impress in his first round back to set an early benchmark, but ended the Shootout seventh ahead of the rebuilt Kobi Williams Racing Spectrum of Brad James.
Completing the top 10m were Lachie Mineeff and Holinger Racing’s Xavier Henderson.
Just missing the top 10 were Jett Leicester, Rio Campbell, Giuseppe Imbrogno, Tabitha Ambrose, Will Hickey and Ryan DeBorre.
Will Lowing will be absent from running on Sunday due to an engine failure during the previous day’s schedule.
The Yokohama Tyre AASA Australian Formula Ford Championship will complete two races on Sunday at the Opener @ The Bend at 12:35pm and 3:15pm ACDT live on SBS or Kayo Sports.
