2 Days of Thunder fires into life
Round 2 of the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series 2026 – Season 4 at Queensland Raceway, the 2 Days of Thunder weekend is underway, with racing and qualifying for some categories taking place this afternoon.
Innovation Race Cars
The Innovation Race Cars had two qualifying sessions today, the first for Saturday’s first race, and the second for Sunday’s opener.
Quali 1 was mighty close, just 0.059s split Geoff Emery and Lee Stibbs, with pole going the way of the Hi-Tec Oils Sponsored machine of Stibbs.
Axle Donaldson in his MARC 2 Mustang ended up third ahead of Danny Stutterd and Andrew Georgiadis.
Quali 2 saw those same five up the top, but in a different order. This time Emery took pole by 0.379s from Stibbs, with Georgiadis a further 0.4s back. Stutterd was fourth ahead of Donaldson and John Goodacre.
TFH Hire Legend Cars Australia
Less than a week after the nationals at Sydney Motorsport Park the pocket rockets were back on the track and racing, not once but twice on Friday afternoon.
It was a thrilling opener in which the race lead changed multiple times a lap, at the chequered flag the top three were split by just 0.5s.
Youngster Riley Skinner was victorious, he pipped former TA2 Muscle Car Series winner Dylan Thomas and Joshua Benaud in the Richards Auto Electrical sponsored car.
Chais Tippett, Shane Tate and Josh Thomas rounded out the first half a dozen cars, while pole sitter and back-to-back national title winner Ruben Dan dropped to seventh.
Maverick Kemenyvary, Nathan Locke and Ryan Pring rounded out the top 10.
Dan rebounded to win the second race of the day in which the top six were split by 1s. Dan managed to overtake his teammate Dylan Thomas on the final lap of the race.
Dan beat home Dean O’Brien, Kemenyvary, Josh Thomas, Skinner, Diesel Thomas and Dylan Thomas who was pushed back to seventh. Benaud, Pring and Tate rounded out the top 10.
Game Over Australian Endurance Championship
The Game Over Australian Endurance Championship had two practice sessions today ahead of the Btuned Ipswich 3 Hour under lights tomorrow night.
In the combined practice times circuit owner Tony Quinn and Matt McCutcheon ended up at the top of the timesheets in their Toyota Supra.
Mark Griffith and Tom Hayman in a Mercedes AMG GT ended up 0.316s behind and just a tenth clear of Fabian Coulthard and John Nikolovski.
Former Toyota 86 Series winner Luke King sharing a Mercedes AMG GT with Jamie Arratoon finished the day in fourth place from Kyle Young/Anthony Levitt.
TA2 Muscle Car Series
There was just the sole 45-minute practice session for the TA2 Muscle Car Series today as part of their Tag Team Endurance weekend.
That one session has indicated just how competitive it is going to be with many Supercars regulars taking to the grid in the V8 powered series.
In the end, the defending Tag Team Enduro winners Alice Buckley and Tim Slade topped top of the timesheets by a margin of just 0.001s in their Chevy Camaro.
Supercars champion and Bathurst 1000 winner Brodie Kostecki teamed up with Nash Morris ended up in P2, the best of the Ford Mustangs.
Reigning TA2 Muscle Car Series winner Jarrod Hughes is back for this round teaming up with NZ TA2 champ Caleb Byers, they were third, only 0.14s off the top time.
Pip Casabene and Walkinshaw TWG driver Ryan Wood were also within 0.2s of Buckley and Slade.
Impressively there were five Mustangs and five Camaros in the top 10. Oscar Targett and Chris Smerdon ended practice in fifth ahead of Ben Gomersall/Will Davison, Tommy and Jack Smith, Kody Garland/Ayrton Hodson, Ryan MacMillan/Cam McLeod, Tyler Cheney and Tim Brook.
Queensland Touring Car Championship
In addition to the national categories, there are two local series. One of which is the popular QTCC. The Queensland Touring Car championship qualified today.
The top two were split by under 0.4s, Murray Reilly in his Holden VE SS Commodore edged out fellow Commodore driver Trent Rub by 0.37s.
Terry Skene in his HRT tribute liveried Commodore made it a Holden 1-2-3, he ended up just a couple of seconds further back. Nathan Marks ended up in fourth and Matt Corney rounded out the top five.
Queensland Superkarts
Adding to the local flavour is the Queensland Superkarts which had three practice sessions today.
At the end of proceedings Russell Jamieson ended the day at the top of the timesheets.
Although in a class of his own, literally, he ended up 8.1s ahead of Jason Ackermanis, with Douglas amiss a further 0.1s back in third. Nicholas Raymond and John Bakker rounded out the top five.
