AASA Tin Tops Series created

The Australian Auto-Sport Alliance (AASA) has announced the formation and creation of a new category for 2026, the AASA Tin Tops Series (AASA TT).

AASA Tin Tops has been launched to support grassroots motorsport in Australia, giving competitors the chance to race at AASA’s biggest events.

AASA TT fills the slot vacated by the Australian Super Tin Tops.

AASA Tin Tops has been formed on solid ground, building upon the foundations of TT racing at state level with the highly successful Vic Super TT Series.

AASA TT will run in partnership and be managed by Vic Super TT. The category will be professionally managed by the experienced Vic Super TT administrators who will support competitors who want to race their TT cars at a national event.

Tin Top (TT) racing in various forms has been at the heart of grassroots circuit racing competition within AASA for many years.

The formation of AASA TT ensures TT teams and drivers continue to have the opportunity to compete at some of AASA’s biggest national events.

The 2026 AASA TT calendar consists of seven events including three within the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series Season 4 – 2026, all four rounds of the newly launched AASA Nationals Series.

Round 1 will be held at the Shell V-Power Motorsport Park in South Australia, at the season opener for the 2026 Hi-Tec Oils Super Series in March.

Series points structures and round formats will be announced in January, with each competitor competing for single event honours as well as within a series point score.

The new AASA Tin Tops Series highlights that the Australian Auto-Sport Alliance gives motorsport a choice. AASA continues to make the sport more affordable, accessible, and rewarding. AASA TT is another step forward in supporting grassroots racing.

TT entry costs to compete at a Super Series round will be less last year, and the AASA Nationals weekends even cheaper again.

A variety of cars are eligible to compete in AASA TT including Replica Tourers, QTCC, Improved Production, Brute Utes, Saloon Cars, Vic V8’s, Vic TT and of course home built racers.

AASA has launched an early bird offer for people looking to enter into AASA Tin Tops. Register before December 31 to receive 25% off AASA TT entries.

Marcos Ambrose – AASA Competition and Commercial Director

“It is very important to us at AASA that we support and give opportunities to our grass roots drivers to race their cars and enjoy the sport that we all love,” he said.

“Getting a quality grass roots category onto our national events is essential. That’s the promise I have made to AASA members and competitors from the beginning, that we care about and will not forget grass roots racers – because that is who we are and part of our DNA.

“Tin Top racing at a state level is well supported in 2026, but to guarantee traditional TT racers can be part of AASA’s biggest events and provide a national category to race in AASA is promoting AASA TT to ensure all our racers can compete on AASA’s biggest events.

“AASA TT will get quality track time, lots of race laps, good tv and streaming, big fields and lots of hard racing.

“Most of the TT field build their own cars using their own ideas, money and time. They will be rewarded for that effort at AASA with an amazing class of varied cars and to test themselves and their machines.

“If you are thinking of competing in AASA Tin Tops for 2026, we have created an early bird registration link on the AASA website which will guarantee you a 25% discount on entry fees and a spot on the grid – another way AASA are trying to support grass roots racers.

Ross Wood – Victorian Super TT category manager

“Vic TT welcome the news of the Australian Auto-Sport Alliance creating AASA Tin Tops,” Wood said. “We will support AASA to run this TT class, allowing cars and drivers more chances to race in 2026.

“This is the ultimate ‘run what you brung’ category. Teams can run a single event or the whole lot, and we will treat everybody equally. Big horsepower or small, there is room for everybody at AASA TT”

“Being able to build your own car and race it in the Super Series is pretty cool and we thank AASA for making this happen.

“We will work hard to keep the costs in line with 2025 and follow state-based TT competition regs. We will be getting lots of track time at the big events and a good variation of tracks to race at.

“The more cars that want to race the cheaper it will be for our competitors; we want to share the benefits of good grid numbers.

“We welcome all competitors. The regs are setup to make as many cars eligible as possible, you can join us for a single race or the entire season. AASA TT is a class for everyone.

“We will announce the points system, awards and prices in January – but rest assured we will make sure AASA TT is the biggest and best place to race your car.”
