Close Yokohama Tyre AASA Australian Formula Ford Championship title fight set to continue at Queensland Raceway

Following on from a close contest at Sydney Motorsport Park the Yokohama Tyre AASA Australian Formula Ford Championship heads to Queensland Raceway, with just three-points separating the title contenders.

Replicating the previous two opening events, there will be 17 rising stars aiming to add their name to the winner’s list led by championship leader Oli Wickham.

The reigning GR Cup Series winner has made a great start to his maiden season by winning three races to hold a three-point lead to Seth Burchartz.

It was an entertaining round in Sydney as Wickham and Burchartz split the victories, but a mistake by the former led to a closed championship margin.

Also in contention, Isaac Demellweek and Jamie Rowe lost ground, but will be two drivers to watch at Queensland Raceway.

Kaleb Belak scored his maiden podium in Sydney’s final race and has been one of the big improvers already in 2026, but will be racing at Queensland Raceway for the first time.

Rookie Sam March has been rewarded with consistency to sit ahead of the experienced Hunter Salvatore, who challenged for the lead in Sydney.

Xavier Henderson was another to make his maiden podium appearance to sit eight ahead of Lachie Mineeff and Giuseppe Imbrogno.

Hoping to move up the standings will be those outside of the top 10 including Brad James, Tabitha Ambrose, Will Lowing, Jett Leicester, Ryan DeBorre, Will Hickey and Rio Campbell.

The Yokohama Tyre AASA Australian Formula Ford Championship will contest two rounds of its series at Queensland Raceway. Saturday will host Qualifying and two races, with Sunday following the same schedule except a full-field Shootout will take place to start the action.

Queensland Raceway hosts the 2 Days of Thunder, the second round of the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series on May 1-3.
