Fight in the Night Saturday wrap
It was racing, racing and more racing from 8.30am am through until 8.30pm on Saturday at the Fourth Round of the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series.
The main acts were the TA2 Muscle Car Series enduro and the Fight in the Night for the APC Enduro Championship.
TFH Hire TA2 Muscle Car Series by Maritimo
It was a dramatic day in the TA2 Muscle Car Series to say the very least, with Alice Buckley prevailing in two of the races including the enduro with Tim Slade.
Race 1 for the regular drivers was a relatively tidy affair, Buckley took the sprint victory beating Lachlan Evennett in the Ashley Jarvis prepared Ford Mustang, with series leader Jarrod Hughes in third.
Clay Richards was one of the stars on debut in the series finishing fourth ahead of 2014 Bathurst 1000 winner Paul Morris.
The co-driver race was not as clean, their 14-lap affair was truncated by a red flag period after a Turn 1 incident involving Jordan Cox, Todd Hazelwood and Brodie Kostecki, while Diesel Thomas and Ben Bargwanna were also involved.
On the re-start, James Golding led from pole, beating Slade, Kostecki, Nathan Herne and Declan Fraser.
The combined points from both drivers finishing positions in the sprint races determined the grid positions for the 45-minute Tag Team Enduro,
Buckley again led from the flag withstanding pressure from Evennett and Jarrod Hughes early on.
Her compulsory pit stop was made at the 20-minute mark handing over to Slade for the final stint.
Josh Webster finished second but was handed a 25-second penalty for not serving the correct amount of time in the pits.
This promoted the Kostecki/Morris Norwell Motorplex Mustang up to second with Craig Lowndes and Hughes rounding out a very popular podium.
Hi-Tec Oils APC Enduro Championship
It was a great day to be in a Mustang in the APC Enduro Championship whether that was the #25 machine or the #9, the #25 won the sprints with the #9 prevailing in the annual Fight in the Night.
Lindsay Kearns took the win in the opening sprint race ahead of Tyler Mecklem and Glen Walker.
Sprint Race 2 was again won by the #25 Mustang, this time with Brad Carr behind the wheel, second went to Mecklem’s teammate Hadrian Morrall and youngster McHutcheon driving the Chevy Camaro in third.
The Fight in the Night was a very dramatic affair with many mechanical issues, punctures and strategy plays.
At the end the #9 Mustang driven by Mecklem and Morrall took the win by 21s, there second straight win in the Queensland enduro.
Wisely they took the compulsory stop during the safety car period, this was a masterstroke that also worked for the Maika Ter Horst and Rob Gooley Speedcafe BMW M4, and allowed them to finish ahead of the #25 Mustang.
Lindsay Kearns rounded out the podium finishing a lap down, they were forced to make an extra early stop due to a puncture.
Mark Griffith and Tom Hayman were fourth ahead of the father and daughter duo of Karlie and Paul Buccini.
Eastern Sleepers Super Tin Tops
Brent Edwards, in his faithful Ford Falcon BA clean swept the two races in the Super Tin Tops today.
In Race 1 he started from fourth and fell to as far back as fifth, despite this he came home strongly and marched forward to take the win.
Edwards sat second late into the race until a fuel pressure issue for leader Stephen Chilby forced the BMW driver into a gutting retirement.
Victorian Peter Ryder was second ahead of fellow Silvia driver Corey Gillett, Tony Saint and Daniel Natoli.
Race 2 was dominated by Edwards, he took the win by 6s from Chilby who stormed through from the very back. Saint was third ahead of Gillett and Ryder.
Innovation Race Cars
Continuing the endurance theme, Innovation Race Cars (IRC) had one sprint race and an enduro, both of which were absolute crackers.
Pole sitter Geoff Taunton led the opener early before his ABS gave up the ghost, the lack of braking confidence cost him lap after lap and he lost places.
Geoff Emery would take the lead and score victory in Race 1 ahead of Adrian Flack on debut, Taunton finished in third.
Race 2, the enduro saw Taunton lead from the front early but did not have things his own way. Late in his opening stint he was attacked by Flack who had made his way past Emery for second with an aggressive move into Turn 4.
In the pit stop cycle Damien Flack took over from Adrian and emerged out in front, however on cold tyres he looked uncomfortable.
While venerable Taunton was able to pounce under brakes and take the race lead. Emery would follow through soon after.
That was the way it remained Taunton took the win ahead of Emery, with Flack holding off relentless pressure at the end of the race from Daniel Jilesen.
Formula Vee Australia
As always in Formula Vee Australia it was incredibly close up the front of the field, both races today were determined by less than 0.1s.
The usual suspects were up the front of the field throughout with Curtis Porter and Michael Kinsella, Alex Macdonald and Daniel Reynolds fighting hammer and tongues.
Race 1 featured an end of race drag race, MacDonald and Reynolds were side by side across the line, the official margin just 0.06s.
Porter was third and Kinsella fourth, the margin of all four just over 0.5s.
You thought Race 1 was close, Race 2 was closer still. The top four within 0.2s.
Multiple-time champion Kinsella got the glory by taking the win by 0.04s ahead of Reynolds who was again the bridesmaid. Macdonald was third and Porter fourth.
Queensland Touring Cars
It was a very mixed-up day of racing in the Queensland Touring Cars with six different drivers scoring podium finishes across the two days two races.
Race 1 saw a Holden Commodore top three lockout, Trent Rub who scored pole position converted that into a five second victory. Terry Skene finished in second, 1s ahead of Hudson James in third.
In Race 2 results were flipped around, Shane Stewart in the BMW E34 took the win from Murray Reilly and Warren Wadley. Rub did not start, James retired and Skene finished seventh.
Ultimate Steele Framing Queensland Superkarts
It was a busy morning for the Superkarts, not only did they have two races, but the pocket rockets also went qualifying, all of which went the way of Ewen Burg.
In the opening race it was pole sitter Burg that converted it into victory in what was an incredibly tight race.
The top three were separated by just 0.3s, Burg pipped Timothy Weier and Gareth Crisp. Timothy Philp and Russell Jamieson rounded out the top five outright.
Burg won the second encounter by a comfortable 5s margin as the two behind fought for second. Crisp pipped Weier by 0.02s, Jamieson and Philp were next.
