Alice Buckley and Tim Slade reigned supreme in the Tag Team enduro round despite a DNF in the final race of the weekend.
The hard work was done yesterday, today it was just about bringing it home and that is exactly what they did. Slade finished second in the opener today and Buckley third in her solo drive.
The racing in the two sprint races was clean yet action packed, Nathan Herne reigned supreme this morning, with an aggressive drive he overtook some established stars to take the win beating home Slade and Todd Hazelwood.
Race 2 of the day saw young up and comer Lachlan Evennett take a brilliant victory fighting against the Chevrolet Racing cars.
Evennett stormed off into the distance late on to win by 5s from Jarrod Hughes and Buckley.
The final race of the weekend was a thrilling affair with twists and turns at every corner.
There was a lot of clean jostling of position early in the race in the top half dozen positions.
The real drama started when race leader Hughes fired off the road at Turn 6 and lost multiple positions.
James Golding sharing the car with Evennett sat in second in the closing stages, however he ran off in similar fashion to Hughes at the final corner also.
Simultaneously Slade’s Camero ground to a halt with engine issues. However, as Golding got beached in the final corner gravel the round victory was Slade and Buckleys.
As many cars fell by the wayside, Brodie Kostecki and Paul Morris stayed out of trouble to take the race victory and second for the round.
Golding was put back on track and that finish was enough to see them finish in third position overall with Evennett.
In the race Nathan Herne and Tom Davies beat home Hughes and Craig Lowndes to second place.
Eastern Sleepers Australian Super Tin Tops
Rebounding from a heartbreaking DNF when leading yesterday, Stephen Chilby won both of today’s Aussie Super Tin Top races.
Chibly started Race 3 from second position, but while Brent Edwards burst into wheel-spin he roared ahead into Turn 1.
He would continually extend the margin throughout the race and went on to win by a margin of just under five seconds. Cory Gillett came home strong and secured a podium finish while Peter Ryder recovered from a stall to finish fourth.
At the start of Race 4 Edwards was able to briefly sneak past Chilby but it was not for long, Chilby got the better exit out of Turn 3 and from there would not be headed.
Chilby took another comfortable win, Gillett closed in on Edwards late in the final race but had to settle for third position.
Innovation Race Cars
It was an incredibly dramatic day in the Innovation Race Cars with the two championship leaders coming to blows not once but twice.
The drama started at Turn 1, Geoff Taunton made the better start from the outside of the front row however did not close the door. Emery was braver under brakes and fired up the inside.
The contact resulted in Taunton spinning backwards into the barrier atTurn 1, while Daniel Jilesen was able to sneak by Emery and move to the front of the field.
A safety car was called to recover Taunton from the gravel, the Queenslander did finish albeit in 11th position.
On the restart Jilesen pulled away and comfortably took his maiden IRC victory ahead of Emery and Axel Donaldson.
Race 2, the enduro was just as action packed. Again, on the opening lap Taunton and Emery collided, this time at Turn 5, both flew off track and suffered significant damage.
Up front Jilesen pulled a margin from Donaldson in the opening stint. While Donaldson remained in his MARC Mustang during the compulsory pit stop sequence, Jilesen handed over the keys to James Parker.
In the closing stages Donaldson was catching Parker hand over fist, but it was a case of too little too late. Parker held on to give himself and Jilesen the round victory.
John Hillinger finished in third position and with that reclaimed the championship lead.
Formula Vee Australia
Michael Kinsella finished the weekend on a high winning the final two races, making it three from four and importantly round honours.
The opening encounter was a typical thriller with the margin between first and second exactly 0.05s.
One again it was Kinsella that prevailed in the drag race to the line, he pipped Race 1 winner Alex MacDonald. Daniel Reynolds was less than 0.1s further back in third pipping the local Curtis Porter.
Race 4 was a Vee rarity, featuring a runaway race winner. While Reynolds, Porter and Alex Hedemann scrapped vigorously for second position Kinsella was able to break away from the slipstream and take a commanding victory of 5s.
Reynolds himself gaped those he was fighting midway through the race to finish second. Hedemann finished third 0.011s ahead of Porter.
Queensland Touring Cars
Trent Rub was untouchable on Sunday in the Queensland Touring Cars, winning Race 3 by over 5s and doubling that margin in the final.
BMW E36 driver Shane Stuart came home in second position just 0.5s clear of Hudson James.
Race 4 saw Rub score the win by 10s from Stuart, with Warren Wadley third a further 1.3s behind.
Stuart was more consistent and ended up taking the round win overall due to Rub’s Race 2 retirement.
Ultimate Steele Queensland Superkarts
The Ultimate Steele Queensland Superkarts had the final two races today as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations.
Gareth Crisp was the dominant force taking both wins by a comfortable margin.
In Race 3 he was victorious by 8.7s from fellow 250 National champion Timothy Weier.
Russell Jamieson finished as the best of the 125 Open class karts ahead of Timothy Philps.
In the final race of the weekend Weier attempted a move on Crisp early, the pair touched, and it was Weier that came off worse falling to fourth.
Crisp went on to take the win by 11s, it was a brilliant battle for second as Jamieson put up a fight against the recovering Weier. He did his best but came up just 0.5s shy, Weier from Jamieson and Philp.
