Formula Ford Association becomes official partner of the AASA
In an exciting announcement, the Formula Ford Association of Australia (FFA) and the Australian Auto-Sport Alliance (AASA) will enter a partnership to run the national championship in 2026.
Following the success of the inaugural Formula Ford Stars Series in 2025 on the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series program on an unrivalled broadcast platform, an agreement has been reached for the future generation of Australia’s rising stars to contest the re-launched championship.
Through a new official partnership between the FFA and AASA, the AASA National Formula Ford Championship will be re-launched.
Australian Formula Ford through its various guises during a more than 50-year history continues to be an integral stepping stone towards higher levels of motorsport. This is displayed by former champions Will Davison, David Reynolds, Nick Percat, Chaz Mostert, Cam Waters, Jack Le Brocq, Anton De Pasquale, Thomas Randle and Cam Hill currently competing in the Supercars Championship.
Continuing to play an integral part in fostering Australia’s next stars, the newly confirmed AASA National Formula Ford Championship is scheduled for 14 rounds across eight weekend in 2026 split between all six Hi-Tec Oils Super Series events and two to be confirmed.
Interest is high for the next season where its predicted fields of more than 20 are expected with new teams, drivers and extra cars being prepared for 2026.
Revolutionary aspects of the Formula Ford Stars Series from this season will continue into 2026 including extra practice sessions, rolling starts, racing under lights, long format feature races, expanded event schedules and much more.
New initiatives including the introduction of Top 10 Shootouts will further enhance the experience for drivers entering the AASA National Formula Ford Championship in 2026.

Marcos Ambrose
National Competition & Commercial Director, Australian Auto-Sport Alliance
“We at AASA are excited to announce FFA becoming an official partner of the AASA to create the 2026 AASA Australian Formula Ford Championship,” said Ambrose.
“AASA is proud to support the next generation of Australian racing talent by creating the new for 2026 AASA National Formula Ford Championship.
“Formula Ford has proven for decades that it is a fantastic driver training category where you can learn to set-up a race car and show your talents for a very reasonable budget. The cars are simple enough that you can run as an independent or family team and still beat the more professional outfits.
“The cars are fast, nimble and finely balanced machines. It’s as ‘pure’ as racing gets - no downforce, open suspension and no driver aids. The winner of the 2026 AASA National Formula Ford Championship will have earned it and be recognised accordingly.
“The 2026 AASA National Formula Ford Championship will be given ‘feature’ status on the Hi-Tec Oils Super series Season 4 – 2026 which will ensure the drivers get more track time, more racing laps and more streaming and Live TV than any other junior category in Australia right now.
“At AASA we know how important it is to provide a platform for drivers who want to become the best and get noticed. That’s why AASA have supported Formula Ford and can now offer a seriously competitive and rewarding National Championship.
“The Formula Ford series will have extra practice sessions, some Top 10 Shootouts, several races under lights as well as long format feature races every day to give drivers diverse track time and experiences to take to the next level if they are good enough. And don’t forget, at AASA laps only count – no time certain racing which will give our star drivers plenty of opportunity to show us how good they are.
“We have several teams committing to the series now looking and talking to new drivers. If you are considering Formula Ford as an option for 2026 I would be quick as the interest and excitement around what we have already done in 2025 with the Formula Ford Stars Series has generated a lot of interest and I expect rides will go fast.”
Jeff Grech
Category Manager
“The merger between the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series and the Formula Ford Association is very important,” said Grech.
“It comes after a lot of hard work, especially from Marcos to negotiate this position, but I think it will be well worth it for both entities - the Formula Ford Association and the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series. The AASA will work behind the scenes to make sure it remains viable and I’m really excited about this new association.
“Formula Ford has a significant history in Australian motorsport as a lot of our career drivers have all come through the category.
“We’re happy yo continue that tradition and we want to make it not only easier, but better for young drivers to participate in Formula Ford. Both Marcos and I in addition to respected figures in the motorsport industry know that Formula Ford is a great grounding for young drivers to learn their racecraft.
“Marcos has been instrumental in not only getting Formula Ford recognised again, but allowing the program to have increased track time, more racing and the media aspect of that, so all the competitiors have something to take their sponsors. It gives these young drivers a pathway to front organisations as upcoming drivers and that paves the way for their future motorsport aspirations.
“We believe there will be more and more entries leading to a fuller grid. This makes it good for TV and great for racing. It’s pretty excited and I’m proud that Formula Ford is back on the grid in a good way.
“My wish is that the young drivers get recognised by the main teams then they progress through their motorsport career.”
Phil Marrinon
Formula Ford Association of Australia Administrator
“After a strategic review of our operations and the future direction of Formula Ford in Australia, we’re proud to announce a new era for national championship Formula Ford racing through our partnership with AASA,” said Marrinon.
“This collaboration provides competitors with greater flexibility to participate in events at both state and national levels, while establishing a management structure designed for long-term sustainability.
“We’re excited about the opportunities this alliance will bring to our competitors.”
