Formula Ford rising stars to fight under lights in Sydney

The Formula Ford Stars Series is set for an exciting second round as part of the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series Sydney Sundown event on May 30-31.

A crack field lines up for Round 2 of the inaugural Formula Ford Stars Series, which will enter a new element to the weekend by racing under lights at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Two races on Friday and the finale on Saturday will be conducted during the night sessions of the Sydney Sundown, which will prove spectacular combined with the category’s rolling starts.

Kobi Williams is the driver to catch after a near-perfect opening round at Winton where he collected three out of four victories to take a 28-point lead into Sydney.

Williams didn’t have it his own way at Winton as Joe Fawcett proved a worthy contender and snagged a race win to sit second in the standings.

Behind the lead two in third is Jamie Rowe after a constant performance in his Spectrum, while Will Lowing leads the local hopes after scoring a podium at Winton.

Another to impress was Hunter Salvatore and he will be gunning for a run at the podium following top five finishes at Round 1.

Brad James leads the way for Marcos Ambrose Motorsport in what was a tough opening round of the team. James made a superb comeback in Sunday’s events to finish just outside the top five, while teammate Tabitha Ambrose will put the disappointment of Winton behind her to progress up the standings at the venue she made her maiden Formula Ford start at.

A driver to keep an eye on will be Lachlan Evennett, who proved an early challenger to Williams and Fawcett before being caught up in drama on Sunday led to a disappointing conclusion. He will be a contender no doubt under the lights at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Jack Johnson recovered from a spin in the opening race to run consistently across the opening round and will aim to cement his top 10 position in the standings, but has ‘high-flyer’ Ethan Fitzgerald for close company in the point score.

Rounding out the field another Sydney local in the form of Kaleb Balek and Fraser Hie, who was another quick contender to endure a difficult round at Winton.

The Formula Ford Stars Series will have plenty of track action across the two-day meeting headlined by three races during the evening sessions.

A stacked schedule ensures the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series Sydney Sundown will cater for many race fans through a variety of categories including the Formula Ford Super Series on May 30-31.
