Stacked TA2 field for Sydney Sundown
No less than 19 TA2 cars will hit the track at Sydney Motorsport Park as part of the Sydney Sundown Hi-Tec Oils Super Series round later this week.
It will be the third round of the TFH Hire TA2 Muscle Car Series - presented by Maritimo Luxury Yachts and notably championship leader Jarrod Hughes will be absent, opening the door for his rivals to catch or even pass him.
His closest rival, Super2 driver Ben Gomersall is just seven points behind going into this round.
The highly experienced and ultra-fast Tim Brook will step in to drive the #118 Chevrolet Camaro in his place.
There are many New South Wales hoping to take advantage of a home track advantage including, Michael Coulter, Kiara Zabetakis, Hayden Jackson and Cameron Laws.
The Hi-Tec Oils Team will enjoy a home round as well, with 2024 series runner-up Brad Gartner hoping for a strong performance at Sydney Motorsport Park after a tough outing last year.
“I’ve always had a decent car at Sydney, last year was my debut in the Hi-Tec Oils Camaro, which was one to forget with two DNFs,” he recalled.
“But we finished the rest of the year off good and fast wherever we went, so hopefully we can do that again this year.
“Night racing isn’t easier nor harder but it’s really cool. Under lights the atmosphere is always awesome at Sydney.
“Everything feels faster, the cars look cooler, it makes for good TV and great racing, everything under lights is incredible and I am excited for it.”
Notably, 2024 Formula RX8 champion Brock Paine will make his TA2 Muscle Car Series debut on Friday in a Chevrolet Camaro.
While Steve Wilson makes his first appearance since Queensland Raceway last year driving the #3 Wilson AutoSport Chevrolet Camaro.
The Circo Master Class will be hard fought as always, leading contenders Graham Cheney, Mark Crutcher and Domain Ramsay are all competing this weekend.
The Sydney Sundown will be shown live on SBS Viceland, Fox Sports and Kayo on Friday and Saturday from 17:00 to 21:00 AEST.
More action can be seen on the official Super Series YouTube channel, from 14:00-22:00 AEST on Friday, and from 13:00-2200 AEST on Saturday.
