Kobi Williams excited for increased challenge

Kobi Williams may have added three more victories to his total after Round 3 of the Formula Ford Stars Series at Queensland Raceway, but it came after four thrilling battles across the weekend.

Williams has dominated the inaugural Formula Ford Stars Series thus far, but the tide appears to be shifting after a quartet of thrilling encounters at Queensland Raceway where Lachlan Evennett proved more than a match to score his maiden win.

“The racing was super close weekend and Queensland Raceway was a track where we thought it’d be the most exciting,” Williams reflected.

“There’s long straights and heaps of drafting opportunities as well, so overall it was an awesome weekend of racing.

“There’s plenty of bumps and the kerbs a bit different, which was a pretty exciting to experience.

Williams believes his improved racecraft has given him the edge so far this season.

“I’ve found my racecraft has been pretty good throughout the season,” he explained.

“Just by being able to put my car in the right spots and passing at the correct times, I mean there has been times I haven’t won the race, but I feel like I do my best to put myself in the right position on track.”

Unlike Queensland Raceway, Williams can draw on some experience at Mallala, albeit in a very different type of racing discipline.

“I’ve driven there once in an S5000 of all things,” Williams said.

“It should be pretty exciting in these cars, with a few real slow corners, so there should be plenty of passing. Mallala is tighter than Queensland Raceway, but the racing should still be very good.

“I’ll just keep trying to put my best foot forward and look at some data to see where we can improve the car with the aim of hitting the ground running at Mallala.”

The Formula Ford Stars Series resumes at Mallala for Round 5 of the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series on September 26-28.
