Kobi Williams leads close opening day at Mallala
Formula Ford Stars Series leader Kobi Williams has ended Friday’s running fastest to begin the penultimate round at Mallala.
The circuit located in rural South Australia has not hosted a national Formula Ford round in close to two decades and it was Williams setting the pace at the end of Friday on a 1m 10.761s.
Title contender Joe Fawcett finished just 0.090s off Williams’ pace and Jamie Rowe completed the top three at a margin of 0.202s in arrears.
Race winner at Queensland Raceway, Lachlan Evennett was fourth from series newcomer Isaac Demellweek, Will Lowing, Hunter Salvatore and local Giuseppe Imbrogno.
Jack Johnson and Brad James completed the top 10, which was covered by less than a second.
Series returnee Kaleb Balek, Ethan Fitzgerald and Tabitha Ambrose completed the field in the final session.
Earlier in the schedule, Williams started the round fastest in the opening practice session from Fawcett, Rowe, Lowing and Demellweek.
It was Rowe setting the pace in Practice 2 from Williams, Fawcett, Evennett and Lowing.
The Formula Ford Stars Series moves into qualifying mode on Saturday at 9:55am ACST.
