Kobi Williams targeting repeat winning performance in Sydney

Leaving Winton as the Formula Ford Stars & Renegades Series leader met expectations for Kobi Williams, but he believes Sydney Motorsport Park will present plenty of challenges as he targets another near-perfect weekend.

Entering his fourth season in Formula Ford has Williams determined to become the inaugural Formula Ford Stars & Renegades Series champion and following three wins at Winton moved into favouritism.

The racing between Williams and Joe Fawcett was close, but clean leading to the foundation of a nice rivalry forming.

“The racing was intense,” Williams summarised.

“Joe certainly had my measure in the last race at Winton, with no mistakes and it was good to see. We had a hard fought race and I was struggling with the tyres a little bit towards the end.

“It was great fun, we kept the car clean as well and hopefully it continues for the rest of the series.

“It was a positive start to the title and hopefully we’ll continue that onto Sydney.

An impressive performance in the opening round was essential for Williams as he targets his next move up the motorsport ladder.

“I was hoping to have a strong start to the year in what is my fourth season in the category, my target was to be the benchmark and move forward,” he revealed.

Moving to Sydney Motorsport Park, Williams believes there will be an elevated level of competition following Round 1 and the circuit provides some unique challenges such as the surface.

“I enjoy driving in Sydney,” he said.

“It’s a very challenging track, but rewarding so I’ll have a crack and see how it goes.

“Jamie [Rowe] was quite quick at the end of the Winton weekend and I think he’ll definitely improve as the season goes on, but I think there will be plenty of others running at the front by the end of the year.

“We’ve got some work to do on tyre wear due to Sydney being a high degradation track, but we’ll do some investigating prior to the weekend to make sure we’re on top of it.”

Round 2 of the Formula Ford Stars & Renegades Series forms part of an impressive list of categories set to compete on the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series bill on May 30-June 1
