Lachlan Evennett ends opening day in Queensland on top

Lachlan Evennett has ended the opening day of competition for Round 3 of the Formula Ford Stars & Renegades Series at Queensland Raceway on top of the timesheets.

Run in-conjunction with the 2 Days of Thunder meeting, the third round is on Evennett’s home turf and he set a 1m 15.218s lap to lead series leader Kobi Williams by just 0.120s.

Will Lowing was third from title contender Joe Fawcett and Hunter Salvatore rounded out the top five in the second practice session of the day.

Jamie Rowe scored sixth from Marcos Ambrose Motorsport’s Brad James, Fraser Hie, Tabitha Ambrose and Ethan Fitzgerald completed the top 10.

Renegades competitor Andrew Torti was just half a second off the Duratec-powered Stars entries in 11th, while Jack Johnson endured a gearbox problem preventing him from setting a quick time.

In the earlier session, it was Williams setting the pace on a 1m 15.562s to be 0.546s clear of James and Lowing was third.

Fawcett, Salvatore, Rowe, Hie, Johnson, Evennett, Ambrose, Fitzgerald and Torti completed the field.

The Formula Ford Stars & Renegades Series heads straight into Qualifying at Queensland Raceway at 9:55am AEST.
