The rising star from Tasmania put on a masterclass in changeable conditions to take pole with a lap of 1m 38.920s.
It was close at the top as Hunter Salvatore put in his best performance to line-up second, missing pole by just 0.171s.
Will Lowing is in a great position to fight for his maiden victory from third alongside Isaac Demellweek, who sits second in the title.
Off the third row is Seth Burchartz, with Brad James scoring a strong qualifying result in sixth.
A driver to watch will be Jamie Rowe from seventh as Rio Campbell lines up by his side.
Sam March and Xavier Henderson are off the fifth row, with a few surprises featuring outside the top 10.
Rookies Will Hickey and Jett Leicester will lead a pack of experienced runners eager to make up ground.
