Series leader Kobi Williams snatches pole in Sydney

Series leader Kobi Williams has taken pole position for the opening race of Round 2 for the Formula Ford Stars Series at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Continuing a rapid day of action in Sydney, a 15-minute practice session immediately preceded Qualifying and acted as a warm up to ensure drivers were in-tune prior to the fight for pole position.

In the end, it was Williams scoring his first pole position for the season following key title rival Joe Fawcett’s lockout at Winton.

Achieving a 1m 34.368s, Williams will share the front-row with Lachlan Evennett after he fell just 0.139s short of the pole time.

Fawcett is well positioned in third from lead New South Welshman Will Lowing, while the Jamie Rowe may have set the pace in practice, but has work to do from fifth on the grid.

Hunter Salvatore was a little more than a second off the pace of Williams in sixth to place ahead of Jack Johnson, Kaleb Belak, Brad James and Fraser Hie.

Ethan Fitzgerald was just short of a top 10 berth leaving Tabitha Ambrose to complete the field.

Focus for the drivers now turns to the night sessions beginning at 5:30pm AEST for Race 1 at 20-minutes length.

Race 2 is due to commence at 7:35pm AEST, with both events to feature on the live broadcast as part of the SBS Viceland, Fox Sports and Kayo Hi-Tec Oils Speed Series package beginning at 5:00pm AEST.
