Formula Ford provides different motorsport pathway for Will Lowing
Formula Ford has provided the start to many driving careers, but Will Lowing is aiming to use the category to launch into another area of motorsport.
Lowing is a university student studying engineering and has utilised his Formula Ford program to further develop his understanding of set-up in a real life application.
Racing in Formula Ford has further emphasised the motorsport engineering sphere as a career path to pursue for Lowing.
“I really enjoy finding the right set-up, it’s my favourite aspect of racing,” Lowing explained.
“It’s satisfying when you finally get it right after all your hard work. I love going through the data, the vision and trying to tune up the car for what I need.
“I’ve learnt a lot this year with what I need from the car, what changes to make to it to suit me.
“I’m studying engineering at the moment and that’s an avenue I’m investigating. I run my own car, I engineer it and I really like that aspect of racing, which I’ve been learning a lot about this year.”
Lowing’s campaign is a true father-son effort and has continued to perform at a high level all season. Entering the final round at Winton, Lowing remains in contention to win one of the end of season prizes if he finishes inside the top three.
“I’m pretty happy with my performances this year and we’ve walked away with a podium at every round,” Lowing reflected.
“It’s been really close this year as proven by qualifying at Mallala where the top five was split by 0.068s.
“It’s good to have my dad help. I do the more of the engineering side and he does the preparation.
“We do argue sometimes, but he does a lot for me and we work pretty hard together to get the car running. It’s satisfying going up against the bigger teams and achieving the results we have this season.”
Lowing is targeting a strong result at Winton, which is a favourite circuit of his.
“I’m always aiming to maximise every time I hit the track and I like Winton, so I’m hopeful of getting some good results there,” he concluded.
The Formula Ford Stars Series will conclude its inaugural season at the Winton Wrap, Round 6 of the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series on October 31-November 2.
