Hi-Tec Oils Super Series thrills under lights at 2 Days of Thunder

Round 3 of the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series at the 2 Days of Thunder hosted by Queensland Raceway provided some spectacular racing and new winners as the racing thrilled into the night.

Hi-Tec Oils APC Enduro Championship

Trent Whyte and Glenn Walker guided the Ultimate Diesel Tuning Ford Mustang to victory in the QR Twilight 300 at 2 Days.

It was a race of attrition as Whyte reversed his fortunes from Sydney to score the win from Jake Camilleri in his rapid Mazda 3 MPS as Karlie and Paul Buccini completed a superb fight back to take third in the Team Buccini Racing BMW 340i after a mechanical setback in Race 1.

The first four on the road were class winners, with Rob O’Connor and Jesse Dixon bringing the Kirkworks BMW 130i home just off the podium.

Tony Quinn failed to finish after a spectacular engine failure for the Game Over Chevrolet Camaro 15-minutes into the race.

TFH Hire Legend Cars Australia Championship

Riley Skinner took pole to start Saturday’s action, but was defeated in Race 1 by the pace setter in practice Robert Hogan in the opener.

Hogan reset the lap record in the opening race as he defeated Skinner and Ryan Pring.

Skinner returned the dose in Race 2 by taking victory from Hogan, with Pring remaining in third place.

The lead pair were separated by less than second at the line and Sunday’s action promises to be just as close.

Australian Super TT Championship/Australian Trans Am/Production Ute Series

Brent Edwards completed the clean-sweep in Australian Super TT driving the Cable Source Ford Falcon XR6.

Edwards set pole ahead of Tony Saint in the Mobile Auto Hoses Mazda RX-7 by 0.380s as Friday’s top runner Dylan Cothill was third in his Skid Control Toyota GT86.

The top three from qualifying held the same positions in Race 1, but the North Albury Automotive Nissan Skyline R33 of Ben Arnold climbed from fourth to second in the final encounter of the day ahead of Saint.

TFH Hire Muscle Car Series by Maritimo

Jarrod Hughes made a winning return to the category after missing Sydney by taking pole and both race wins on offer during Saturday’s schedule.

Hughes driving the IES Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro took pole by 0.445s from Alice Buckley and Ben Gomersall in the Unit Ford Mustang.

Gomersall jumped Buckley’s Chevrolet Racing Camaro at the start of Race 1 to take second ahead of Tom Davies in The Exchange Hotel-sponsored entry.

Davies in his Camaro then demoted Gomersall to third in Race 2, but was unable to topple Hughes.

Formula Ford Stars & Renegades Series

Kobi Williams took pole and two race wins, but had to outlast serious challenges from Lachlan Evennett throughout the Saturday.

Qualifying fell the way of Williams after Evennett failed post-race checks due to ride height, which set-up a mega opening race charge.

Evennett started 12th and ended the race second behind Williams, but just ahead of Will Lowing in third.

Race 2 was arguably the best of the season courtesy of an intense, yet clean fight between Williams and Evennett. The lead continually changed, however it was Williams taking the win from Evennett and Jamie Rowe.

Australian IRC Racing Series

Geoff Taunton continued to hald sway in his IRC GT SS after qualifying, but an incident in the opening lap of Race 1 led the event to be cancelled.

Taunton shared the front-row with Danny Stutterd as Daniel Jilesen and John Goodacre started behind in their IRC GTs.

Goodacre, Stutterd and the Ford Focus V8 of Jon Crossing all collided at Turn 1 leading to the cancellation of the opening race although all drivers emerged from their vehicles unassisted.

Replica Tourers

Subaru defeated Holden in the sole Replica Tourers race on the Saturday schedule.

Paul Hudson in his Subaru Impreza WRX STI defeated Jason Grimmond driving the Coca Cola-inspired Holden Commodore.

Rex Scoles in his older Holden VC Commodore completed the top three from the VF of Mitch Rice and Shane Stuart’s BMW 1 Series.

Australian Excel Super Sprint

The Saturday wins were split between Caleb Paterson and Tyler Collins in finishes decided by less than a second.

Paterson took Race 2 of the weekend from Collins and Sam Mclaren, with the top two positions swapped in the the third event of the round, while Matt Boylett scored the final spot on the podium.
