Kobi Williams takes opening Winton Wrap race victory

Kobi Williams has taken the opening race victory at the Winton Wrap marking the final event of the inaugural Formula Ford Stars Series.

Williams was able to take a 0.330s victory ahead of Will Lowing and Joe Fawcett.

There was action at the start of the opening race as a concertina led to Tabitha Ambrose clipping the back of Jack Johnson’s Spectrum resulting in right-hand corner damage and retirement.

Johnson was able to continue and finished seventh as Williams at the front was challenged by Lowing for much of the opening encounter where there was a strange safety car was required when a gazebo came onto the track.

Williams was able to hold off any advances to snare his 13th win of the season.

Lowing’s improved performances continued with the runner up slot just ahead of Fawcett, who took a chunk of points in his pursuit of second in the standings.

Jamie Rowe took fourth ahead Brad James, who scored his best result of the season and his first top five.

Isaac Demellweek dropped to the back after an off at Turn 6, but was able to overhaul Johnson to score sixth.

The second race of the Winton Wrap for the Formula Ford Stars Series is scheduled for 3:55pm AEDT.
