Lachlan Evennett wins action-packed Mallala opener
Lachlan Evennett has done his title chances no harm after taking the opening race victory at the penultimate Formula Ford Stars Series at Mallala.
Evennett started from pole, but lost the lead off the start to series leader to Kobi Williams until pounding on the second lap at Turn 5 to take a lead he failed to lose.
Williams endured a technical problem and dropped back to ninth at the chequered flag as many drivers achieved their best results for the season.
Will Lowing scored second for his personal best finish ahead of Hunter Salvatore, who scored his maiden podium in the category.
It wasn’t easy for Salvatore after a clash with Isaac Demellweek at the high-speed Turn 6, which resulted in the latter getting air and rear damage. Jamie Rowe was an innocent party and took to the grass in avoidance.
Rounding out the top five were Jack Johnson and Ethan Fitzgerald to record their top finishes for the season.
Sixth was Kaleb Belak from Rowe Tabitha Ambrose, Williams and Giuseppe Imbrogno after contact with Brad James dropped him out of contention.
Joe Fawcett’s race went awry late in the race and he finished back in 11th.
James and Demellweek were the retirements from the race.
Race 2 of the Formula Ford Stars Series is scheduled for 3:25pm ACST/3:55pm AEST.
