Thrilling end to 2 Days of Thunder weekend at Queensland Raceway

Round 3 of the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series wrapped up in stunning fashion at Queensland Raceway’s 2 Days of Thunder event.

There was plenty of action and a solid crowd attended to view the wide variety of racing on offer during the final day.

TFH Hire Legends Cars Australia Championship

Dylan Thomas returned to the winner’s circle in Race 3 to kick off the final day as Saturday’s victors Robert Hogan and Riley Skinner were disqualified.

Thomas led home Josh Benaud and Aiden Williams in Race 3 for the weekend, with Hogan bouncing back to take the win in the fourth event.

Hogan secured a tight victory from Askr Sendall and Thomas.

In the finale, Hogan, Skinner and Thomas completed the podium. Despite finishing second, Skinner walked away with the lap record at a 1m 23.239s.

Replica Tourers

Jason Grimmond and Paul Hudson split the wins in the two Replica Tourers races held on Sunday.

Grimmond took home the win in his Coca-Cola tribute Holden Commodore from Hudson’s Subaru Impreza WRX STI in Race 3 and the BMW 135i of Rob Neal.

The retirement of Grimmond in the fourth and final race opened the door for Hudson to secure from Mitch Rice’s Holden VF Commodore, while Shane Stuart bounced back from being disqualified in the previous event to finish third.

Australian Excel Sprint Series

There was plenty of action in the Australian Excel Sprint Series following a major collision and resultant rollover red flagged Race 4 for the category.

Race 5 was won by Tyler Collins after outlasting key rivals across the weekend Sam McLaren and Caleb Paterson.

Hi-Tec Oils APC Enduro Championships

CK Motorsport’s Lindsay Kearns gave the Ford Mustang its second win of the weekend after a sustained battle with Trent Whyte’s Ultimate Diesel Tuning example in the final 30-minute sprint race.

The two Mustangs put on a spectacular battle as Karlie Buccini finished on the outright podium in third driving the Team Buccini Racing BMW 340i.

Kearns was winner of Class A2, Buccini Class B1, Tom Hayman secured Class A1 honours in the Grifcorp Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG, Jesse Dixon Class D for the Kirkworks BMW 130i squad and Gerrard O’Flynn was victorious in Class C steering the Prime Motorsport Holden Astra OPC.

Australian IRC Racing Series

Geoff Taunton completed a clean-sweep of the results by taking all three victories on offer during Sunday’s schedule.

After Saturday’s cancelled opening race, the category enjoyed the addition of another race within Sunday’s running.

Taunton secured the victories in his IRC GT SS from Danny Stutterd in Race 1 and Daniel Jilesen in the remaining two events.

Grant ‘Axle’ Donaldson and Geoff Emery split the third places as the latter ended the round with two.

Australian Super TT Championship/Australian Trans Am/Production Ute Series

After taking three wins from as many races, Brent Edwards just failed to complete the clean-sweep in the final race of the weekend.

Ben Arnold finished second in his Nissan Skyline R33, but was able to go one better in the final race to lead the Mobile Auto Hoses Mazda RX-7 of Tony Saint and the Cable Source Ford Falcon XR6 of Edwards.

Earlier, Cory Gillett was third in Race 3 driving the KBC Plumbing Nissan Silvia.

John Prefontaine won the Australian Trans Am division in his Ford Mustang after the similar entry of Zak Hudson retired.

The Pontiac Firebird of Andrew Edser and Glenn Allingham’s Plymouth Duster completed the podium in Race 3.

Edser led Hudson in the finale from Prefontaine.

Leading the way in the Production Ute Series was Peter Clarke in his Holden VZ Commodore from the VZ of John Young and Tony Montgomrie.

Clarke added another win to complete the weekend from Young and Montgomrie.

TFH Hire TA2 Muscle Car Series presented by Maritimo

It was Alice Buckley’s day after she scored her first pole and two impressive victories in the Chevrolet Racing Camaro.

Buckley edged out Unit Racing’s Ben Gomersall for pole by 0.210s, with Jarrod Hughes third in the IES Motorsport Camaro.

In an action-packed pair of races, Buckley held off Hughes in the first from TFH Hire’s Josh Thomas.

In the final, Diesel Thomas proved the only challenger to Buckley’s dominance, but fell short in second to lead brother Josh across the line.

Formula Ford Stars & Renegades Series

Kobi Williams walked away as the winner of the final race of the weekend, but his streak was broken after Lachlan Evennett secured the first.

Williams was fastest in qualifying from Joe Fawcett and Evennett, but it was the latter proving a major challenge as he followed through on this to win Sunday’s opener.

Williams flipped the script in the final race of the event to score the victory from Evennett and Jamie Rowe in what was one of his strongest performances of the season.

The Hi-Tec Oils Super Series will return to Queensland Raceway for Round 4 where the famed Fight in the Night APC Enduro Championship race headlines the bill on August 15-17.
