Mega entries for Legend Cars

Big numbers and new faces highlight an impressive 34 car entry list for the TFH Hire Legend Cars Australia round at Sydney Motorsport Park. Legend Cars Australia’s fourth round will be a part of Sydney Sundown, the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series round commencing today.

The 34 entries are just shy of the Legend Car record, but features a lot of new names from all walks of life, some kids fresh out of karting, and some elder statesman keen to have a bit of fun on the weekend.

“Numbers are really good, it’s nearly the record,” said category owner Brett Thomas. “The series only ran a fortnight ago in Sydney, several drivers had mechanical problems, and they haven’t had time to fix their cars. But I'm sure we'll break that record again very soon.”

Category representative Tony Ward noted how many new drivers are entered this weekend, both young and old, and from all around the nation.

“One of the unique things about Legend Cars is we get them from both sides, we have a 14-year-old that'll be starting and then a 60-year-old that's just starting,” Ward explained.

“We've got Darren Snowden, he’s raced Legend Cars on the dirt for many, many years, an ACT champion and front-runner in the Australian title, so quite experienced driver. He's coming across to run asphalt for the very first time.

“You've got a guy who was running Speedway, just finished the speedway season and now he’s going to run the car on asphalt for the next few months until Speedway starts again.

“It’s the same car, just different tyres and a windscreen that’s really all he’d had to change.

“There's a fair few coming down from Brisbane for this round, we've got drivers that travel from Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, we've got them coming from all over the country now.”

The pocket rockets remain one of the most popular categories on the Super Series schedule, with cars often going four wide, and Sydney Motorsport Park is certainly a track well suited to them.

“Legend Cars are amazing to watch, those guys are five and six wide in some of the corners at SMP,” said Thomas. “It's one of the best tracks in Australia, it always provides close racing.

“There's a lot of guys that raced at SMSP two weeks ago that hadn’t run before and used it as a practice day. So, they'll be better and with the new guys that are coming into the series this weekend, there will certainly be lots to look out for.”

All the regular front-runners are entered including reigning champion Ryan Pring, Shane Tate, Ben Goodridge, former TA2 Series winner Dylan Thomas, Scott Morgan and Robert Hogan.

The full entry list can be found here.

There’s a bit of added incentive this weekend with a new prize on the line.

“There's a lot of new things we're implementing with Legend Cars,” Thomas stated. “We've got new trophies this weekend, which will blow your mind, the first-place trophy is 1.3 meters high!”

Stay tuned in the coming weeks for some news on international Legend Car opportunities.
